Wind was forecast for afternoon so didn't get up in a hurry. Big mistake - by 10am it had already filled in. HT 3pm so should have got up earlier for a low-mid tide session. Ho-hum.

Anyway...
Went to Shoreham first to say hello quickly to everyone who was out there already, before driving on to Littlehampton, hoping that it would be possible to sail through high tide there. Shoreham did look good (11.30am) but with the tide coming up it would have started turning shite within an hour. So forced myself to leave a sunny windy beach and drove on to LA.

Correct decision. Looked v good at LA on arrival 12.30pm - proper windy, no sign of a shorebreak, and wall-to-wall sunshine! Started off on the (brand new!) 4.5 and first few runs were good - easy launch, well powered, and some nicely shaped ramps. Shorebreak soon started to pick up though...as did the wind.

By the time JonL and Puzzle arrived one hour later it was HONKING. Changed down to 4.0(!) which was much better, but now shorebreak was large and high-tide lumpiness was increasing. Being well-to-over powered on a very confused sea state with no real waves to speak of it was real survival sailing and not all that enjoyable. But glorious sunny 4.0 weather on a Sunday - no complaints!!!

Gave up around 3pm cos after 2 hours of mental overpowered sailing plus several shorebreak-rinsings and swims realised I was so knackered it would start getting dangerous if I carried on. Bonkers session - much windier than expected - just a real shame it had to coincide with high tide.
